A tree change gave this former project manager the chance to pursue a life-long love of chemistry. Brad’s regional business grew from wanting to help the Aussie Breadtags For Wheelchairs charity to recycle tags in Australia. Guided by YouTube videos, he made a shredder and extractor using old ovens and other found objects. His artisan Transmutation workshop now recycles plastic to make everything from doorknobs to dishes that are stocked by 15 retailers – including Country Road, which carries an exclusive homewares line made from moulds created in Mt Gambier. This grant will help Brad to fund the building of a laser-cutting machine, with the help of Flinders University engineering students, enabling him to expand operations and employment opportunities.
